LJ and shady pops
It appears Livejournal,and few other sites are now sporting shady pop up ads. In particular with journals using the so called "plus" ad supported account.
I'm not a big LJ participant for many reason, and this perhaps for me to take further migratory actions. There are honest marketing, and there are underhanded / aggressive marketing. This one is is the latter.
For now, I'll simply local DNS resolve all hosts associated to their ad servers. At least things will load faster without loading all the junk.

There are quite a few of us, believe me! I know it's not nice to have a smirk on my face, but it's really hard every time something like this happens.

I didn't realise LJ has pop-up ads? I have a paid account, so not sure maybe that would have made a difference? That's probably link to all these new changes that they are implementing?

evidently this covers only accounts that a "plus" or anyone that is viewing a "plus" account. I'm not sure if paid customers viewing Plus accounts gets ads, but normal/basic users viewing Plus accounts will get ads.

From what I know part of the change is that all new accounts are now Plus. There is no more Basic account.

i just filter them out in my brain.... i don't notice them. the only ones i ever notice are the ones that slide over content and those haven't made it to LJ yet.

Cute - An XP popup window on a Mac. ^_^; And I used to get a kick out of seeing an ad pop-up stealth-disguised as an error message window either in the style of the previous version of the OS, or in the current style when viewing it on an earlier version of the OS.

I'm strangely glad I've decided to remain a paid LJ user. (Maybe when I pay off all my bills in a couple years I'll keep an eye out if permanent accounts ever go on sale again.)

I was wondering about that. My sister woke me up in the middle of the night after seeing one of those on the computer and I was all 0_o makes no sense! So der to LJ recently. If I didn't have so many people who used it I don't think I would still be here...
